William James Patterson, age 75, of Burlison, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2024 at Millington Health Care Center. Mr. Bill grew up in Sterling, North Dakota, working the farm with his parents and ten siblings, and from an early age, he could always be found outdoors, driving the big trucks out in the fields. On into his later years, he continued to raise farm animals and care for his horses whom he loved dearly.
Bill Patterson was a retired United States Marine and Vitenam veteran, and proudly served his country for 22 years as a helicopter mechanic, crew chief, and legal aid. During his time in the service Bill had many duty stations, including Hawaii, North Carolina, and Iwakuni, Japan. Being a military man, Mr. Patterson had certain expectations of himself and others, and wasn’t afraid to let you know. To his friends and family, he was dependable, punctual, loyal, and most importantly, always there when you needed him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lynda Harman Patterson; two sons, William “Will” Patterson (Katie) and Jeremy Patterson (April); one daughter, Christina Young (Kevin); his grandchildren, Tucker (Lillee), Payton (Andrew), Fletcher, Ariel, Cody, Nicklaus, Lillian and Kaylee; one great-grandchild, Travis Wayne; three brothers, David Patterson (Sharon), Don Patterson (Sue), and Leroy “Pete” Patterson, and one sister, Jan Wiess (Jim.) He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lillian Huber Patterson; six siblings, and his parents-in-law, Raymond and Maxine Harman.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 1p.m. until 3 p.m.in the chapel of Covington Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, with the funeral to begin at 3 p.m. Interment with full military honors will follow the funeral in Magnolia Gardens Cemetery. Pastor Theresa Hood will officiate the services, with Dan Harman, Dan Patterson, John Patterson, Darren Kovaloff, Tucker Patterson, Andrew Ballard, Nickolaus Castka, and Cody Longo serving as pallbearers.
