Wayne Parsons

April 13, 1947 — April 27, 2022

Wayne Parsons, age 75, of Covington, TN, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, in the comfort of his home. Mr. Wayne worked as a welder, electrician, Mr. Fix-It and jack-of-all-trades, both in his career with Charms as an industrial maintenance technician until he retired, and in his spare time at home. He always had a project (or ten) that he was working on around the house, whether it be something his family and friends requested, or simply just to “see if he could” craft something. Just about everything in Mr. Wayne’s home is something he made - a part of his heart and creativity, with a memory to accompany it in every piece. He was a proud United States Marine Corps Veteran, having served overseas, and a recipient of the Purple Heart. During his time in Vietnam he was assigned to Hill 881 South, and was involved in the intense conflict that later became known as the Hill Fights. We was wounded the day before his 21st birthday, but his life was saved thanks to a bullet proof vest and a flight jacket given to him by one of two Chinook pilots he had rescued from a sniper situation three days prior. If there was ever a world record for making people laugh, Wayne Parsons would hold the title. Quick-witted, and full of one-liners, the stories and jokes he’d share would keep the whole room in stitches. It didn’t matter who you were, if he knew you or not, Mr. Wayne radiated life and laughter to everyone he met. Even in his final days, he never lost his sense of humor. He was famous among his family for his “Irish Goodbyes.” Any event or social gathering he attended, whenever he got ready to go he would slip out unnoticed, sometimes even to the surprise of those that were mid-conversation with him. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara Parsons; two daughters, Lisa Yates and Becky (Tim) Gray; six grandchildren, JoJo (David) Broughton, Jordan (Cory) Coleman, John Logan Yates, Luke Yates, Cole Gray, and Lily Yates; five great-grandchildren, Gabriel Broughton, Caylin Broughton, Cami Coleman, Michael Broughton, and Grayson Coleman, and three brothers, Ronnie (Donna) Parsons, Larry (Kay) Parsons, and Randy (Gina) Parsons. He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Parsons; his mother, Thelma Sue Parsons Jaco, and his brother, Michael Parsons. Funeral services for Mr. Wayne will be held at 2pm on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at the Covington Funeral Home chapel. Methodist Hospice Chaplain Mike Potter will officiate the service. The visitation for friends and family will be held on Saturday evening at the funeral home from 4pm until 6pm. To his family and friends, God’s got him now, and that makes him the winner.
