Verble Glenn Fleming

November 21, 1944 — November 9, 2023

Brighton, TN

Glenn Fleming, 78, of Brighton, TN, went to be with the Lord on November 9, 2023.  Born on November 21, 1944, Glenn as he was generally known, was well-liked, had a knack for making people laugh and a drive to bring happiness to those around him.

He had a successful, lifelong career as a machinist, working first at International Harvester where he played a pivotal role in the advancement of a four-row cotton picker. He furthered his career at Wright Medical where he showcased his ingenuity by creating a knee joint that is still in use today. He also invented the locking patella and other innovative improvements to many of today’s medical implements. His contributions were recognized with numerous accolades and certificates of achievement.

Outside of work, Glenn had a passion for farming and raising cattle. He spent many hours tending to his land and his herd. In his leisure time, he enjoyed a good game of cards and friendly competition with his loved ones. He was a gracious winner, often displaying the “L” sign on his forehead when the most recent “Losers” were in the room. He wasn’t keen on sitting still and could be and would be relied upon for help as he could fix just about anything. He had an infectious smile and was always ready for a challenge.

Glenn leaves behind a loving family, including his faithful wife, Mary Edna, his son William Glenn Fleming (Sherry), his daughter Dorothy Fleming Ray (Richard), his daughter Eva Fleming McCall (Ben), his daughter Cynthia Fleming Crabb (Kevin), a step-daughter Tammy Harkness Moore (Carey) and a multitude of grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He also leaves behind three devoted brothers, George Cleveland Fleming, Phil Erron Fleming and Ronald Dale Fleming. He was preceded in death by his father, Verble Cleveland Fleming, his mother, Lula Vernese Fleming  and his brothers, Grover Lance Fleming and Vernon Clifford Fleming.

Through his marriage to Mary, he gained a sister and five brothers who filled his life with happy times and family gatherings;  Phyllis Diane Gibbs (Brian), Frank D. Fiveash (Susan), Ronald W Fiveash (Beth), Robert H Fiveash (Paula), Terry G Fiveash and Jerry L Fiveash (Teresa). The newfound family provided friendship, travel and life experiences he never would have had without them.

Glenn's life will be celebrated with a visitation on Monday, November 13, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Covington Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday November 14, 2023 at 3:00 PM at the Covington Funeral Home chapel with interment to follow in Magnolia Gardens Cemetery. Beaver Baptist Church is a place of worship that held significant importance to Glenn. He was a devoted member and regularly worked in the fellowship hall or wherever he was needed. Beaver Baptist Church will host a repast in their fellowship hall immediately following the interment. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Beaver Baptist Church, St. Jude or the American Cancer Society in Glenn's memory.

Prior to marrying his adoring and caring wife Mary Edna, he was widowed after a long and dedicated marriage to Jane. He will be buried next to Jane with Mary’s love and understanding. From his previous marriage, he leaves behind three step-children and several grandchildren who still loved and adored him; Cheri Brady Waters, Robert Brady and Tara Brady Warren.

Glenn will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His infectious laughter, dedication to his work, and love for his family and community will forever be remembered.
