Terry "TMac" McDaniel, 68, of Covington, passed away on Saturday, October 26 at his home in Covington.
Terry attended Raleigh Egypt High School in Memphis. Throughout his life, he enjoyed sports, having played football at Coleman Elementary School, Egypt Central Middle school and finally Raleigh Egypt High School. In addition to his football career, he also played baseball for the Memphis Elite Baseball team. Beyond sports, his favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting and cheering for the Memphis Tigers.
Terry worked in maintenance for most of his life. Over his career, he worked for Plant Maintenance Service Corporation, Wal-Mart in Covington and the Lauderdale County Hospital. When not working in a maintenance capacity, he worked for Cole's Do It Best/Home Hardware Store where he ran the contractors desk.
When not at work, Terry worked as the Youth Director at Grace Baptist Church in Rosemark and was an Assistant Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 260 in Brighton where he led he son and many other Scouts to become Eagle Scouts.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Peggy Kemp McDaniel; three children, Dustin (Ashley) Kemp of Ripley, Gloria Michelle (Stephen) Goode of Covington and Jacob (Janiya) McDaniel of Covington; six grandchildren, Hailey McClain, Addilyn Goode, Carter Goode, Harlee Tutor, Dani Hunt and Levi Hunt; three siblings, Linda Lee of Federal Way, WA, Charles and Vicky McDaniel of Munford and Richard and Rheba McDaniel of Brighton and his in-laws, Sonia and Bryan Fisher, Stanley Kemp and Vicki McDaniel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leck Guin and Charlie Mae McDaniel, and his brother, Thomas McDaniel.
In true Terry style, a BBQ gathering rather than a traditional funeral service will be held on November 22 at the Garland Community Center from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. to celebrate his life and legacy. Terry's life was marked by his devotion to his family, his faith and his community and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. This gathering will honor his wishes for a simple yet meaningful remembrance among family and friends.
