Simon C. Staggs

November 13, 1935 — December 19, 2022

Simon C. Staggs, age 87, of Millington, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 19, 2022 at Methodist North Hospital in Memphis, TN. He was a Godly man, patient and calm, always there to help anyone in need, led by his unshakable faith, and trust in the Lord. He loved singing in the choir at First Baptist Church of Atoka, where he and his wife had been attending since 2002. Of the many lessons he passed on to his children and grandchildren, the most important was how to have faith, and to trust God with everything. Cyughlin was a United States Navy Veteran, and a retired biomedical engineer, and would regularly be found tinkering with electronics. He enjoyed working with wood also, fashioning all manner of household decorations and tools, from rakes and ladders to shelves for Maedreau and the girls. In the quiet moments of life, he would read and work in his garden. A loving husband, father, brother, friend, and grandpa or “Pawpaw” as the little ones called him, Simon Cyughlin Staggs will be dearly missed. He is survived by his beloved wife, Maedreau Staggs; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Raymond Dicks; daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Dan Hall; grandchildren, Ray (Tara) James, Josiah James, Jeremiah Dicks, Daniel (Renay) Hall, Jr., David (Sarah) Hall, Jonathan Hall, Benjamin Hall, and Philip Hall; great-grandchildren, Nick, Seth, Kaitie, Natalie, Ellie, Erik, Leanna, Kalab, Diana, Mia, and David; close family friend, Irene Baugh; siblings, Ava Nell and Blossom, and his siblings-in-law, Glenda and Junior. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Kattie Buckley Staggs, two siblings, Samuel “Bubber,” and Gloria Mae, and his siblings-in-law, Orilia Mae, Arnie, Willie, Brenda, R. V., Curtiss, and J. C. Visitation for friends and family will be held from 10 am until noon at First Baptist Church of Atoka on Friday, December 23rd. The funeral service will begin at 12 noon, with a chapel closeout. Military Honors will be rendered at the church during this time due to the forecasted inclement weather. Cemetery services will be private.
