Shirley Gardner Raithel, 85, of Millington and Brighton, passed away at her home on Sunday, July 15 from the effects of Alzhiemers Disease. She is mourned by her family. She is predeceased by her husband of 50 years, GySgt. Forest R. Raithel. She is survived by five daughters, Kathleen A. (Morgan) Roberts, Robin E. (Dan) Dixon, Debbie R. (Barry) Carter, Penny E. (Robert) McLain and Sherrie L. Hires; six grandchildren, Richard, Amanda, Christopher, Jessica, Jeffrey and Cody and nine great grandchildren, Kyle, Taylor, Elena, Alex, Dalton, Wyatt, Addison, William and Elizabeth. Shirley was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as a teletype operator during the Korean Conflict. She worked for Western Union for many years and retired from the State of Tennessee Department of Human Services. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Graveside services will be held at 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, July 18 at the West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Memphis. There is no visitation scheduled.
