Mildred Geraldine Sanders Yon, 85, of Covington passed away at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital on August 11, 2021, after a brief illness. She was born on September 9, 1935, to Annie Myrtle Clem Sanders and Wade Victor Sanders. She was the youngest of seven children. Mildred and Benjamin Edward (Ed) Yon were married on October 14, 1950 and had four children, Cynthia Yon Thompson (Charles) of Memphis, Stuart Edward Yon (Darlene) of Covington, Pamela Yon Channell (Jerol) of Panama City, FL, and Jerry Benjamin Yon (Amanda) of Covington, TN. Mildred was preceded in death by her siblings, her husband, Ed, of 59 years, and two grandchildren. She leaves her four children, 14 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. Mildred was the longtime bookkeeper for her husband’s service station business. She was best known for her beautiful needlework, vegetable gardening, and large family dinners. Family and friends enjoyed her warm peanut butter cookies, “if she was expecting you.” She loved watching the “Golden Girls” on television and listening to music by Elvis Presley. She often set the dining room table with Elvis memorabilia along with the fine china. She enjoyed antiquing and lunching on the Square in Covington on Saturday afternoons. In earlier years she enjoyed riding horses and cheering on her sons at the Covington Saddle Club competitions on Saturday nights. The grandchildren and great-grandchildren called her “Nannie.” She delighted in seeing them on holidays and other large family gatherings. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 21, at 2 PM at Covington Funeral Home with interment to follow at Magnolia Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends before the service beginning at 1 PM at the funeral home. Mildred was member of Covington Evangelical Methodist Church in Covington. The family requests any memorials be sent to the Paige Robbins Adult Day Center in Collierville or the Alzheimer’s Association.
