Margaret Chalfant

Margaret S. Chalfant, age 87, of Cordova, passed away on Monday, August 28, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis after a long illness.  Margaret retired from the Internal Revenue Service after 40+ years of service.  She was a member of Covenant Baptist Church in Collierville, TN.

Ms. Margaret, mother to some, darling Nana to others, and mother-in-law to her darling son-in-law, was a beautiful soul whose heart was as good as gold to everyone she met.  She loved and lived for her family.  No matter what any of them needed, she was always there to lend a hand or an ear, and always her heart.  She was very giving and sometimes gave all she had to her family.  Many times she opened her home and her heart to a few that had no place to stay, or lay their head.

Ms. Margaret loved to garden, and had beautiful gardens all around her home.  She appreciated beauty, especially beautiful flowers.  She most loved the flowers her son filled the house with in her last days.  She was a God-fearing woman who wouldn’t hesitate to pray for family, friends, or anyone in need.  She loved Jesus and taught her children and grandchildren to love Him as well.  Her greatest wish was for everyone to get along, have a peaceful, happy and healthy family.

She is survived by two children, James Michael Chalfant, and Carol Elise (Gary) Lewis; five grandchildren, Cody Peppers, Victoria Peppers, Shelby Peppers, Brooke Chalfant, and Miranda Chalfant, and nine great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Phoenix, Liam, Harper, Navie, Brooklyn, SJ, Lily, and Isabella.  She was preceded in death by her husband, James Carl Chalfant; her parents, W.E. and Victoria Sandlin, and her brother, W.E. Sandlin, Jr.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 2nd, at Covenant Baptist Church, located at 3170 S. Houston Levee Road in Collierville, TN.  Visitation for friends and family will begin at 11:30a.m. and continue until service time at 1 p.m.  A committal service will follow at 4 p.m. in Mary’s Chapel Cemetery in Ripley, TN.
