Leonard O. Lind, age 82, of Brighton, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2022, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee. Mr. Lind was a Retired Master Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy, a member and former Grand Knight of his council of Knights of Columbus at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church of Covington, and former member of the Lion’s Club. He was an Aviation Mechanic of 27 years, and served as director and instructor at the Naval Air Technical Training Center (NATTC) in Pensacola, Florida. He was a computer technologies instructor for Covington High School and Dyersburg State Community College, helping students earn their A+ certification in technical support and IT. Raised on a farm, Mr. Leonard loved being outside. If you were looking for him, you’d find him cutting grass, out on the tractor baling hay, or tinkering with things, fixing vehicles and equipment. Whether he was having lunch and “solving the world’s problems” with fellow church family at his favorite restaurants – Breakfast Cove and McDonald’s – or visiting families during their times of need, volunteering with Baptist Hospice Group in Covington as a sitter, you could always tell that Mr. Leonard truly cared about others and his community. Any chance they got, he and his late wife, Nancy, would travel to visit family and friends, and support their grandkids at sporting events, attending soccer, baseball, and basketball games. Although he couldn’t read music, Mr. Leonard didn’t let that stop him from learning to play the accordion, and entertaining his children with songs. Known as “Lenny” to some, and by his CB handle “Tennessee Rain Maker” to others, he was a husband, a brother, a father, a grandfather, and a friend. He loved pizza, watching westerns, the weather, and FOX News, completing Sodoku puzzles, apple pies (especially the ones Kimberly and Emily made for him,) and arguing with Nancy, and he will be deeply missed. He is survived by his two sons, Chad Lind and Jason (Kimberly) Lind; one daughter, Jeannie (Spence) Cousar; six grandchildren, Lauren Lind, Bruner Lind, Austin Cousar, Blake Cousar, Emily Lind and Joseph Lind, and two siblings, Peter Lind and Caroline “Carrie” Horwath. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Nancy Lind, his parents, Elmer and Mary Ann Cota Lind, and ten siblings, Shirley Berthiaume, Lawrence Lind, Madonna “Donna” Wink, Joyce Martin, Lois Herold, Ramona Lind, Robert Lind, Richard Lind, Annette Peterson, and infant brother, “Little” Leonard A. Lind. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church with a wake to be held one hour prior to the mass at the church. Interment will follow in Covington Memorial Gardens. Cremation services are under the direction of Covington Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Friends of the Poor at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.
