Leona “Lea” Ruth Rutherford, 82, of Covington, passed away on Monday, March 25. Lea’s life and passion was serving as a waitress for over 50 years. All her customers adored her and she was known as one of the best waitresses in Tipton County. She truly touched the lives of all who knew her.
Lea was the rock for her family and she had a firm foundation built on her love for Jesus. She was a woman of integrity that led by example. Lea was the loving wife to Don for 37 years and an amazing mother to four children, Robin, Bill, Nora and Tia and left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She enjoyed cheering on her favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals, over many years.
She is survived by one son, Bill (Pam) Brooks; two daughters, Nora (Jerry) O’Hara and Tia (Keith) Lord; five grandchildren, who called her Grammy, Amanda (Skip) Baskin, Cory (Rebekah) O’Hara, Logan (Samantha) Lord, Shelley (Bryson) Ray and Megan (Houston) Davis and eight great grandchildren, Adalyn Baskin, Molly Baskin, Caroline Baskin, Mac Baskin, Briley Ray, Brynlee Ray, Ella Rose Davis and Olivia Davis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Rutherford; her parents, Orville and Nora Castor; one son, Robin Brooks; four brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 29 at the Covington Funeral Home chapel with interment to follow in Magnolia Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.Lea will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her kindness and unwavering faith will forever be remembered and cherished.
