John M. Thompson, 76, of Ripley, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2019. Mr. Thompson was a graduate of Ripley High School, attended Memphis State University, and in 1998, Mr. Thompson retired from Master Wear Casual in Ripley as a distribution center manager. A NASCAR enthusiast, collector of old toys, and all-around prankster, he will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley Colvin Thompson; one daughter, Marion Thompson Davis; one son, John Bradley (Sandy) Thompson; six grandchildren, Logan (Ryan) Davis, Madison Davis (Corey) Crihfield, John Hayden Thompson, John Landry Thompson, Tyler (Stephanie) Bolton, and Alyssa Rice; six great grandchildren, Ronan Davis, Lyra Davis, Emrys Davis, Freyja Davis, Rhydian Crihfield, and Kinsley Bolton. He was preceded in death by his parents L. G. “Red” and Virginia Stanley Thompson, and his brother Lewis Terry Thompson. Funeral services will be held at the Covington Funeral Home chapel at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2019 with interment to follow in Ripley Memorial Gardens in Ripley. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 5 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
