Janice Dale McElhaney

July 1, 1945 — November 9, 2018

Janice D. McElhaney, 72, of Arlington, TN passed away Friday November 9, 2018 while visiting her son and his family in St. Augustine, FL. Jan was having her morning coffee and reading one of her ever present books when the Lord took her hand into his. Jan was born July 1, 1945 in Tupelo, Mississippi to Maggie L. Webb Mangum and Daniel T. (Tip) Mangum. Mrs. McElhaney is survived by her husband of 54 years Nick McElhaney, children: Steven McElhaney (Latesha), Kim McElhaney Smith, Christy McElhaney (Brian), and grandchildren: Ben McNeese, Maggie McElhaney, Madeline McElhaney, Brennan Willey, and Hillary Bass, by her brother Danny Mangum (Jerry), her best friend of 53 years Shirley Armour, her cousin and soul sister, Judith Webb, treasured nieces, nephews and countless family and friends. As a young girl, Jan developed polio.  That would affect her entire life but, always, she sought to find beauty, wonder, and humor in each and every day. Her laugh was contagious, her love for her family was fierce.  She had a generosity of spirit that touched many, young and old. Jan spent many of her best years as Head of Camp Administration for Universal Cheerleaders/Dance Association.  She provided impeccable guidance and support to countless young adults as they embarked upon the journey into adulthood. Jan loved to travel, and so she did.  She traveled far and wide, anywhere and everywhere she could.  She always sought to observe and learn and knew just about anything about everything. During the last weeks of her life, she crossed the Grand Canyon off her bucket list, literally. Her life was a great adventure and her cherished memories were countless. Her children and grandchildren were a great source of joy to her. She took great pride in watching them grow and becoming all that she wished for them. In her presence, strangers became fast friends.  She always found a way to help those in need whether it be a hug, a prayer, or an entire Christmas for a family in need.  Janice was a treasured member of Macedonia United Methodist church, where she also served as a Lay Minister.Memorial services will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 17 at the Macedonia United Methodist Church with the family receiving friends from 4 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the church.
