James Henry Peppers, Jr.

February 4, 1947 — October 6, 2024

Memphis, TN

James Henry Peppers, Jr., 77, of Memphis, passed away at his home on Sunday, October 6, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Junior was a proud member of the Local 30 International Union of Elevator Constructors, his brothers-in-union fondly called him Uncle Henry, having worked as an elevator mechanic for Schindler Elevator of Memphis for approximately 45 years. He married the love of his life, Annette Peppers, on Valentine’s Day in 1966, and they spent 58 wonderful years together until her passing last fall. Junior was a man you could count on for just about everything. If ever you needed anything, he would be there. He vowed to continue helping other folks right up until the day he died, and he kept his word.

His great title he cherished the most was “grandpa” as he was fondly called by many.

In his last days, he stated he had three great loves: number one, Annette, number two, his kids and grandkids, and number three, his family, saying "I am a very rich man.”

Junior is survived by his daughter, Beverly Peppers; his son Dwayne Peppers; one sister, Glenda Boese; six grandchildren, Kristen, Zachary, Trevor, Sammie, Lacey and Alex and seven great-grandchildren, Leland, Troy, Ela, Ian, Addy, Bella and Aubrey.

In addition to his beloved wife, Annette Peppers, he was preceded in death by his parents, James Henry, Sr. and Rossie Mae Evans Peppers, and nine siblings, Orela Mae Thompson, Arnie Peppers, Willie Peppers, Curtiss Peppers, J. C. Peppers, Lonie Peppers, R. V. Peppers, Brenda Nichols, and Lilure Maedreau Staggs.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 12 at the Covington Funeral Home chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Cremation services are under the direction of Covington Funeral Home.

A reception for friends and family will be held immediately following the memorial service at the Atoka First Baptist Church, 102 Kimbrough Drive, Atoka, TN.
