J. Larry Cullum, 80, of Covington, passed away on Thursday, September 9 at his home. During his life, he worked many jobs: he worked at Cullum Plumbing, for the Evangelical Methodist Church as a missionary, with the U. S. Embassy in La Paz, Bolivia and Clopay Curtain Company as a materials buyer and controller. He served as a medic in the U. S. Army Reserve. He also worked as a teacher in the Memphis City Schools and the Tipton County Schools, most notably at Munford High School. After retiring, he took teaching jobs in Costa Rica and Nicaragua. He was a well known sports figure in the county while in high school and had lots of friends over his lifetime. He attended Asbury College and obtained his BS in Business Management from Tusculum College. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Brown Cullum; three daughters, Lora Ruth (Dwyndl) Nelms, Elyse (Gilbert) Bogner and Caroline Cullum; one sister, Faye (Leonard) Nason and three grandchildren, Noah Nelms, Bayley Nelms and R. Harry Bogner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Pauline Cullum; one brother, Russell Cullum, Jr. and one son, James Larry Cullum, Jr. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 14 at Magnolia Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, September 13 at the Covington Funeral Home.
