Helen Friday Taylor, 97, died Wednesday, July 28, 2021. She had been residing at The Glen in Greensboro, GA this past year. She was the wife of Joe Gray Taylor, who grew up in Mason, TN and passed in 1987. Helen was born November 30, 1923, in North, South Carolina to the late Edward Brodie Friday and Ora Coleman Friday. Helen grew up in North, and moved to Columbia, SC during WWII, where she worked for C&S Bank. She met Joe Gray Taylor while he was stationed in Columbia with the Army Air Force and they married after the war. Joe Gray Taylor was a Louisiana historian, professor of History at McNeese and became the Dean of Liberal Arts. He passed away in 1987. She loved to arrange the roses he grew in his garden. Helen was a devoted wife and mother. She is survived by her three children, Major Gen. (Ret.) Joe Gray Taylor and his wife Nancy Rogers Taylor of Georgetown, Texas; Harriette T. Scott and her husband Louis Scott, of Greensboro, GA; and Edward Coleman Taylor and his wife Peggy Guillory Taylor of Gulfport, MS. Helen had 7 grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her four siblings Harriette Friday Woodbury, Tom Friday, Irvin C. Friday and E. B. Friday, all of South Carolina. Helen was active with the McNeese State University Faculty Wives Club and she was a long time member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. She also was an avid bridge player and a past member of the Lake Charles Rose Club. There will be an inurnment service in Mason, Tenn. at Robinson Cemetery at 10:00a.m., on August 28, 2021.
