Finis R. Roberts

May 26, 1940 — August 22, 2023

Springdale, AR

Rev. Finis R. Roberts was born on May 26th, 1940, in Drummonds to the late Isom and Carrie Roberts. He made his triumphant transition to his heavenly home on August 22, 2023, surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his own bed, which is exactly as he wanted.

When Finis accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior in February of 1960, it changed the trajectory of his life forever. Shortly after his salvation, he felt God leading him into the Ministry and he accepted the call in August of that same year and began seminary studies soon afterward. In 1963, he interrupted his education to join the Army, where he proudly served his Country. After his term of enlistment was over, he resumed his studies, eventually earning his Bachelor of Bible Theology degree from Southwestern Bible College in Waxahachie, TX. In 1970 he was ordained as a licensed Minister by the Tennessee District of the Assemblies of God, and he remained a Minister for the rest of his life, pastoring churches in Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma over a span of more than 60 years and also had a radio ministry for more than seven years.

Rev. Roberts had a servant’s heart. He deeply loved serving in the communities where he lived and would often volunteer as Chaplain wherever he was needed, including hospitals, police forces and nursing homes. Over his lifetime he was instrumental in leading countless numbers of people to faith in Christ. However, he was quick to point out that he had led more people to faith in Jesus over a cup of coffee than he could have ever reached from the Pulpit. As a result, he had friends from all faiths, all backgrounds and all walks of life and was respected and loved by all who had the privilege to call him friend and Pastor.

He married the love of his life, his wife, Barbara, on October 18th, 1968. They had been married for almost 55 years at the time of his passing and were the best of friends. He is also survived by their daughter, Carrie Porter, and Son-In-Law, Clay Porter, of Bentonville, AR as well as his two granddaughters, Kailee Mathews and husband, Grady Mathews, of Tontitown, AR; and Kyndall Jordan and husband, Nick Jordan, of Tontitown, AR. In the last four years, Finis and Barbara were also blessed to gain three great-grandchildren, Asher and Emryn Mathews and Arthur Jordan. These babies brought Finis so much joy and the feeling was mutual! They adore their Papaw! Finis is also survived by two brothers, Ruben Roberts (Mary) and Mosley Roberts (Betty), all from Drummonds; one sister, Elsie Crunk of Desoto, TX, and one very special niece, Patricia Byford, of Drummonds as well as countless friends and extended family who already miss him greatly.

Finis was always quick to say that three of God’s biggest blessings to him were becoming a Christian, his wife, Barbara, and his family. He proudly gives his wife, Barbara, credit for her prayers and support and for standing beside him throughout their entire ministry. Marrying Barbara and being a father, grandfather and great-grandfather made his life complete.

His family will feel his loss for the rest of their lives, but they rejoice in knowing, without doubt, that they will see him again!

There will be a visitation on Sunday, August 27th, at the Westfield Funeral Home in Springdale, AR from 2-4 pm.

The funeral will be held at the Covington Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 29th at 12 p.m. There will be a viewing/visitation preceding the funeral from 10:00-11:30 a.m. on the 29th. Interment services will be held at the Poplar Grove Cemetery in Drummonds.
