Elizabeth A. Peebles, 81, of Covington, TN, passed away at home on Thursday, June 17, 2021. Ms. Peebles grew up in the Garland Community and attended Byars Hall in Covington, TN. She later moved to Glen, Mississippi, where she attended Indian Springs United Methodist Church, and was very active in decorating and crafting. Ms. Elizabeth, or MawMaw Liz as her grandkids called her, was well-known by her family, church family, and community for her famous homemade spaghetti and meatballs and coconut cake. She also loved to garden, and grew beautiful roses. Ms. Peebles leaves behind one daughter, Jill (Dewey) Rice, of Covington; three sons, Ricky (Jamie) Mathis, and Dale Mathis, both of Covington, and John (Delise) Peebles, of Glen, Miss.; one step-daughter, Ann Thomas; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Jerry Pugh, Leslie Pugh, Jessie Pugh, and Donnie Pugh; three sisters, Betty Byrd, Sandra Pugh, and Anita Barnes, and numerous other family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, John H. Peebles, Sr.; her son, Bill Mathis, and her parents, James W. and Fannie Mae White Pugh. A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, June 25, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment services will take place on Saturday, June 26, in Palestine Cemetery, in Henry County, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude. Cremation services are under the direction of Covington Funeral Home.
