Dennie "Sam" Akins

Dennie "Sam" Akins, 62, of Covington, passed away on Tuesday, December 12 at the home.  She was an LPN having worked as a nurse in the local nursing homes.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, James "Bud" Akins; one son, James Akins, II; one sister, Tina Smith and six grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Evelyene Byrd; one son, Robert Overton, Jr.; one sister, Jeannie McBroom and four brothers, Owen Byrd, Johnny Byrd, Buster Byrd and David Byrd.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 17 at the Covington Funeral Home with interment to follow in Magnolia Gardens Cemetery.  The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
