David Lister

David Lister, age 91, passed away January 18, 2022. He is survived by his son, David Lister Jr. and his daughter, Linda Lister; also, his elder sister Nadelle Smith of Houston, Texas. He has one grandson, David Danehower and three great grandchildren, Axel, Tristen and Ariana. “The righteous man perishes, and no man takes it to heart; And devout men are taken away, while no one understands. For the righteous man is taken away from evil, he enters into peace; They rest in their beds, Each one who walked in his upright way.”Isaiah 57:1, 2 David a veteran of the US Navy having joined the Navy the day he turned 17, on July 18, 1947. He served in Korea piloting landing craft at Inchon. While he did not like to talk about the war, he knew it was his duty. Later, he would do two tours in Vietnam aboard the USS Hornet as Chief weapons officer. He retired after 27 years of active duty at the rank of CWO3. He loved God and he loved the United States, the country he served honorably. In his closing days, he mourned the loss of the freedoms this country is facing and he had hope for America and its people that they would stand up for those freedoms before they are completely taken away. He will be buried at the West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill-Irene Road, Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee, 38125 USA. The ceremony is at 10AM on January 28, 2022. He will be buried with his wife Jean E Lister, his wife of 67 years. He mourned her for three years and asked his son to move the family back to the great state of Tennessee where he was born, and which he loved. He asked for no flowers to be sent but if someone would like to honor him, they can send a donation to feed children that live at a garbage dump near Subic Bay, in Olongapo Philippines, which he visited when he was in the Navy.
