Cye Powell, Jr.

Cye Alton Powell, Jr., born in Heber Springs, AR on September 15, 1956 to parents Cye and Gereeda Branscum Powell, Sr., passed away at his home in Burlison, Tennessee on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.  

He was a United States Marine Corps Veteran, a carpenter, and a former employee of Austin Paving Company, where he worked as an asphalt and concrete finisher during the ten years he lived in Dallas, Texas.  He was in “the family business” for a while as well, and like his father and brothers, worked as a truck driver.  Cye Jr. was a gentle soul, and not much of a talker unless you wanted to discuss Nascar racing, Arkansas Razorbacks, and Dallas Cowboys football, but every now and again he could get fired up about politics and the government. He enjoyed playing pranks on his friends and family from time to time, but he was also very protective of them, and loved them all fiercely.  

He leaves behind his sister, Candice Royse; two brothers, Joe Powell and Danny Powell; two nieces, Jenipher Chaney (Ron) and Jackie Jones (Chad); five great-nieces and great-nephews, Kasey Jo Westenhover (Joshua), Tache Pearce, A. J. Jones, Keith Jones, and Lauren Chaney, and two great-great-nephews, Levi Westenhover and Bryson Hatchel.  He also leaves a beloved stray cat that took to him instantly.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Powell, and his brother-in-law, Timothy Royse.

Graveside services with military honors will be held on Wednesday, February 21^st in Heber Springs City Cemetery at 12 noon, where he will be laid to rest beside his parents. Cremation services are under the direction of Covington Funeral Home.
