Betty Gladney

Family and friends are mourning the loss of a beautiful Southern lady. Born in Iuka, MS to T.O. and Ora Lee Williams, Betty shared a childhood in the Mississippi countryside with her beloved sisters and brothers, many cousins and friends.

Betty moved to Memphis to study cosmetology and met her husband, Scottie Gladney. Together they raised a family, and worked alongside each other to grow a successful business, Scottie’s Haircutters in Millington, where their employees and long-time customers were family. They enjoyed traveling to hair shows, vacations, and spending time at Pickwick on their boat and later at their cabin.

After retirement, Betty was able to enjoy more time with her sisters, dear friends, gardening, shopping and decorating her beautiful home. But dearest to her heart was being a loving presence in the lives of her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her many special nieces and nephews.

In addition to her mother and father, Ora Lee and T.O., those there to welcome Betty in Heaven include her sister and brothers; Mary Ann, Truman and Thomas Williams, and daughter Glenda Jain.

Wherever a beautiful soul has been, there is a trail of beautiful memories. 

Those who are a living testament to Betty’s special life include; husband Scottie Gladney, sisters; Sandra (Bob) Pannell, Wanda (Benny) Shackelford, Janie (Donnie) Carson, brother Gary Williams, sons; Mike (Janet) Easter, Michael (Susan) Gladney, son-in-law D.K. Jain, grandchildren; Richard (Lauren) Easter, Erica (Stephen) Gallimore, Claire (Chris) Quinn, Austin Gladney, Nicholas (Lauren) Jain, Lydia Jain, Jonathan Jain, and Travis (Tracie) Terry, and numerous great-grandchildren, cherished nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Services will be held at the Covington Funeral Home at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 27 with interment to follow in Covington Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, April 26 at the funeral home.
