Phillip Gwinn Huffman January 2, 1946 - March 7, 2017 Phillip Gwinn Huffman passed away on March 7 at age 71. A lifelong resident of Covington, he was born on January 2, 1946. He was preceded in death by his parents, Turner Vaughn “Jack” and Nell Gwinn Huffman. Phil graduated from Byars-Hall High School in 1964. He attended Memphis State University and was a lifelong Tiger fan. He worked for 11 years as a draftsman for Memphis Light, Gas and Water before returning to Tipton County and working for Tipton County Glass and M&W Glass. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Covington, where he served as an Elder, a Deacon and as Property Chairman. Phil was also active in the lives of his sons, teaching them to hunt, fish, swim, play ball and attending or coaching them in everything they did. He was a very hands-on dad. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary Kate McCormick Huffman; sons Jim (Sarah) Huffman of Collierville and Josh (Kendra) Huffman of Covington; two grandchildren, Addison and Molly Huffman; brothers, Ken Huffman of Deltona, FL and Billy Huffman of Murfreesboro, TN and sister, Jenny H. Moody of Morristown, TN. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 11 at the Covington Funeral Home chapel with interment to follow in R. H. Munford Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. The family requests that memorials be made to either the Methodist-Presbyterian Nursery School, 403 S. Main St., Covington, TN 38019 or St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
