Robert (Bobby) Davie August 19, 1928 - December 13, 2016 Robert (Bobby) Davie, Jr., 88, of Covington, passed away at his home on December 13, 2016. He is survived by Shirley Davis Davie, his wife of 66 years. He leaves behind his children, Nina (Gary) Vanstory and Robert B. Davie, III and his sister, Velma Davie Peeler. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rob and Velma Rhodes Davie and a sister, Kathryn Davie Shoaf. He was a devoted “Pops” to his grandchildren, Stacy (Tom) Block, Christy Ford, Jessica (Ben) Jones, Bill (Heather) Daniel, Tyler (Diana) Davie and Jesse Davie. He also leaves behind nine great-grandchildren. Bobby retired from Exxon after 32 years, served in the Tennessee Army National Guard and was a member of the Clopton United Methodist Church. He had so many long-time friends and family that he enjoyed spending time with over the years. Coaching youth in baseball and basketball for 20 plus years was also important to him. He enjoyed sharing his love of sports with young people. Bobby was inducted into the first class of the Tipton County Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. He attended Memphis State (The University of Memphis) on a football scholarship from 1947-1950. The memories and lessons learned were special to him. Therefore, the family requests that any memorials be made to the University of Memphis Football Scholarship Program so that other athletes can have an opportunity to get an education and excel at athletics. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, December 15 at the Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church with interment to follow in Clopton Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church.
